AS QUE ME HABITAM

A exposição individual As que me habitam apresenta trabalhos realizados de 2017 a 2019 com foco na existência e resistência de mulheres negras na história do Brasil, partindo de biografias de mulheres comuns às que tiveram mais relevo na história nacional, ainda que suas trajetórias tenham sido apagadas das narrativas hegemônicas.

THOSE WHO LIVE IN ME (2019)

The individual exhibition Those who live in me presents works carried out from 2017 to 2019 focusing on the existence and resistance of black women in the history of Brazil, based on biographies of common women to those who have had more relevance in national history, although their trajectories have been erased from hegemonic narratives.

Pinturas em aquarela que recriam os rostos sistematicamente apagados dessas mulheres negras importantes para a história do Brasil. Elas significam as existências e resistências das demais mulheres negras que continuam nos processos de revolução e emancipação, seja social, econômica, afetiva, ou de restituição das suas humanidades. Transformadas em ex-votos, essas pinturas compõem um congá/instalação, um lugar sagrado, de agradecimentos e reconhecimento dos feitos e contribuições conquistadas por essas mulheres.

EX-VOWS, 2019.

Watercolor paintings that recreate the systematically erased faces of these black women who were important to the history of Brazil. They mean the existences and resistance of other black women who continue in the processes of revolution and emancipation, whether social, economic, affective, or restitution of their humanities. Transformed into ex-vows [ex-votos], these paintings compose a congá/facility, a sacred place of gratefulness and recognition of the achievements and contributions conquered by these women.

instalação composta pelas pinturas dos ex-votos, flores artificiais, cartas de agradecimento e imagens enviadas por pessoas de diferentes lugares do país, que através de um chamamento aberto quiseram homenagear mulheres pretas que foram/são importantes em suas vidas.

Facility composed by paintings of ex-vows, artificial flowers, letters of gratefulness, and images sent by people from different places of the country, who through an open call wanted to honor black women who were/are important in their lives.

VIDEOPERFORMANCES- TRINDADE

Trindade de vídeo performances elaboradas a partir das histórias de mulheres negras da região do Cariri Cearense. Maria Caboré, viveu na cidade de Crato no século 19, e teve sua vida marcada por violências físicas e psicológicas, o que a levou a loucura. Hoje considerada uma santa marginal pela população local.

Maria de Araújo (1862-1914), mulher pobre e analfabeta, beata da cidade de Juazeiro do Norte, violentada pela igreja católica, do qual teve o milagre da hóstia roubado, e atribuído ao Pe. Cícero Romão Batista. Por fim, Maria Margarida (1935), alagoana residente em Juazeiro, mestra do guerreiro, cantora, compositora, brincante, com grandes contribuições a cultura popular do Cariri. Ambas ligadas pelo esquecimento.

Three video performances based on the stories of black women from the Cariri Cearense region. Maria Caboré, lived in the city of Crato in the 19th century, and had her life marked by physical and psychological violence, which drove her crazy. Today she is considered a marginal saint by the local population.

Maria de Araújo (1862-1914), a poor and illiterate woman, a blessed of the city of Juazeiro do Norte, raped by the Catholic Church, from which she had the miracle of the host stolen, and attributed to Father Cicero Romão Batista. Finally, Maria Margarida (1935), from Alagoas, residing in Juazeiro, master of the warrior, singer, songwriter, joke, with great contributions to the popular culture of Cariri. Both linked by forgetfulness.

Santinhas que compõem a exposição “As que me habitam”. Oriki, oração de agradecimento a Maria de Araújo e a todas as mulheres negras que a antecederam, e que como nós, foram submetidas a violências diversas.
